Hmmm...this is interesting. Google has made available what they are calling the Google Web Accelerator.
So what is it?
Google Web Accelerator is an application that uses the power of Google's global computer network to make web pages load faster. Google Web Accelerator is easy to use; all you have to do is download and install it, and from then on many web pages will automatically load faster than before.
How does it work?
I suspect they are simply allowing your web surfing to use their servers as a proxy, delivering content in a compressed format. What's interesting is where they could take this. Imagine if all web surfing passed through Google - could they start serving up ads as they provide us improved web surfing speeds? It'll be interesting to see where this takes us.
Perhaps its because it is in beta , or maybe not , but its unfortunate that they only make it available for XP and 2000 , leaving many 98, Me ,not to mention Macs and Linux unable to use it. You are right, it will be interesting to see how funneling the info through there massive databank proxies will affect the future.

Remember a short while ago you were wondering why Google was interested in buying into the broadband backbone business? ...

They don't allow anymore downloads. Can someone point me to an alternate place to download the accelerator? Can someone also tell me how much of an improvement they have found using it.
Cheers,
Marc
