The Command Line for the Web

Yubnub_small If you are a long time techie then you've probably used a command line.  Remember DOS and the little C:\> or perhaps you've seen it in Unix or Linux.  The web is this rich collection of hyperlinked pages so who needs a command line interface right?  Check out YubNub and you might think otherwise.

What is YubNub?  Quite simply, its a command line for the web.

Once I installed the plug-in for Firefox I was able from the upper right corner of my browser to simply issue commands in the command line and leverage web services.  For example, type gim toronto and you'll get images of Toronto found in Google Image Seach.  If you type flk toronto you get image of Toronto found in Flickr.

What I really like about this though is the ability to create your own commands.  I created a command called askmip.  Now if you type the command askmip with any topic after it, you'll immediately get the search results from my blog.  Now that is cool!

You can try a search right off their homepage, but be sure to check out the types of command line commands available too.  To install YubNub just click here.

Hi Mip - I'm delighted that you find yubnub interesting. I tried the askmip command ("askmip tech") -- works nicely.
