Sony Vaio U50 and U70

I've been waiting for a response from OQO to make an early purchase of their ultra portable computer but the product has yet to be seen. Now it would seem that Sony has beaten OQO to the punch. I'd commented on this hybrid PDA and PC before but came across this article that provides a lot more detail. Some high points from the article itself:

While it may look like an overgrown PDA, it runs Windows XP, has a Celeron 900 MHz (U50) or Pentium M 1GHz Centrino processor (U70), a 20 gig hard drive and 256 or 512 megs of RAM. Like a PDA it has a transflective touch screen, though it does not run Windows XP Tablet Edition.

Like the unit coming from OQO, the U50 and U70 are running Windows XP rather than the Tablet Edition. This is not that surprising, given that I've heard rumbling that Microsoft has been slowly pulling back from the tablet OS.

Alas, from the pics themselves, I like the form factor of the OQO as it has the built-in, slide and reveal keyboard, but the Sony units do look so slick (and they are available). The one draw back seems to be the price for the U50 and the U70 which are sold at $2,199US and $2,699US respectively. I've heard that the OQO will be sold for under $2000 but again, until it actually hits the market you never know, it could be as high as the U-line from Sony. Either way, I do hope to test drive one (or both of these units) as it has relevance to one of my clients who is looking at mobile solutions and come up short both with PDA's and Tablets in the work environment.
